This piece and others in the series were done while being at home without a studio but I wanted to give them the weight of paintings. The pencil became like a brush dipped in oil paint. It felt as if what it must have been like to have been Moses crossing an unknown desert with only a staff of wood and a jug of water. Sometimes you learn something from being a little hungry about what you can’t have.
