 "Nightfall", 2014, pencil/watercolor, 11.75"-10".
This piece and the next four are from the series “The Etudes(for watercolor), 14”-20” done in conjunction with my shaped paintings on wood (2007). I chose the title “Etudes” because it made me think of those for piano by Chopin, Debussy and Philip Glass. The flow of watercolor, the flow of the piano. Go with the flow.

"Ritual"2013, by Marc Salz, oil/gessoed ragboard, 22"-17.5". This is the first of nine of my paintings  that were done during the last two years in my former studio. Please click on each of these photos to enlarge them and scroll down for more.
The painting is part of my series titled “The Songs Of The Earth”. I took the title from Gustav Mahler’s (1860-1911) song cycle “The Song Of The Earth”. In the cycle, the voices emerge from the orchestra as they would from the earth or the ocean only to sink back in when the songs end. In my case, it’s a whisper of paint emerging from a white ground towards color and light.
